Programs in Area Four
Our goal: Prevent Domestic Violence. To meet this goal, the Capital Area United Way awarded $122,702 in grant funds to six programs.
What we fund: Community education about domestic violence, child abuse and prevention, shelters for victims of domestic violence or child abuse and services to prevent recurrences, respite childcare, counseling for domestic violence perpetrators.
The impact: Reduced domestic violence and child abuse, victims escape abusive situations, perpetrators of domestic violence reduce aggressive behaviors.
Funded Programs in Area Four:
Domestic ViolenceVictims Outreach and Support , offered by Cristo Rey Community Center, is receiving grant funding through Capital Area United Way. The program provides education and intervention counseling to victims who choose not to go to shelters. The program also provides a therapy group and individual counseling for perpetrators. EVE/CARE Domestic Violence Intervention, offered by EVE, Inc., is receiving grant funding through Capital Area United Way to provide supportive services to the victims of domestic violence in the community while seeking to end domestic violence through public awareness and community education. The program provides a 24-hour crisis line for telephone intervention, an emergency shelter and domestic violence training to law enforcement officers. Legal Intervention for Domestic Violence, offered by Legal Services of South Central Michigan, is receiving grant funding through Capital Area United Way to provide legal representation, knowledge and community legal education to victims and potential victims of domestic violence. Legal representation is also provided to domestic violence victims in court seeking personal protection orders and personal safety through legal proceedings. Relationship Violence Shelter and Education, offered by MSU Safe Place, is receiving grant funding through Capital Area United Way. The program provides immediate, safe shelter for anyone currently being victimized by domestic or relationship violence. The education component increases community awareness. This program also educates those who encounter victims or batterers, and those in the legal system and human services, so they may better serve victims of relationship violence. RAVE Safehouse, offered by Relief After Violent Encounters, is receiving grant funding through Capital Area United Way and will provide victims of domestic violence with safe shelter and short-term crisis intervention in Clinton County. The services include: crisis counseling, legal rights, parenting classes, assistance with establishing long-term housing, transportation, safety planning and education on domestic and sexual violence. SIREN-Emergency Services for DV Victims, offered by SIREN Shelter, is receiving grant funding through Capital Area United Way and will provide victims of domestic violence with safe shelter and short term crisis intervention in Eaton County. For more information call (517) 543-0748.
