Meet some of the 2009/2010 Members of the CAUW Young Leaders Society…..
Tom Curtis I recently started cultivating a "rockin' skill" by taking vocal lessons at Marshall Music. On the home front, I live with my girlfriend, Jessica, and my yellow Labrador, Louie. My first job was operating a curbside vegetable stand at the age of six, selling cucumbers grown in my parents' backyard garden.
Nicole Johnson Best Advice – Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful Rockin’ Skill – Multitasking! First Business Card Title – Business Analyst
Abby Marshall Best advice (received/given)- “Put your future in good hands, your own” My mentor Felix Brooks, taught me more about life, work and decisions than I ever expected. Over long talks with him, I will contemplated my future ideas of law schools, starting my own business, running for political office or moving across the world. It seemed as if each day I had a new path or idea of how I was going to change the world, he always pushed me to dream bigger and believe in myself, he would end each conversation with “put your future in good hands, your own.” Favorite book/author: It’s a toss-up “Freakonomics” by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner and “Come On People” by Bill Cosby Favorite pie: Most definitely pumpkin with lots of whipped cream
Karima Porter Best advice (received/given) – My advice is my motto, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. Favorite pie – My Mulberry pie. First job – Treasury Controller for the French Government. Rockin' skill – I love to drum. Nickname - Kari Self proclaimed – Portrait painter Stress reliever – My cats S/he comes to work b/c... She is committed to make a difference.
Shavonne Singleton Best advice (received/given): If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten. Stress Reliever: Reading magazines back to front (that's where the actual stories are!) Self proclaimed: Laugh-a-holic!
Tatanisha Worthy Favorite pie: Peach cobbler or sweet potato pie First business card title: Assistant Director of a Homeless Shelter First job: Worked at an ice-cream parlor Pet peeve: People that have excuses about everything! Nickname: Tat Stress reliever: Shopping, massages, music What wakes you up in the morning: My active 4 year old! S/he comes to work b/c... I go to work because I love what I do. My job is not a job, but a professional career where I am making a difference for our community and society.
